End of life care is everyone’s business. Until it affects you or your loved ones, no one realises how important and essential it is in our communities outside hospitals where many people would prefer not to spend their last days.
Much of the provision of end of life care is provided by services that are stretched or provided by specialist services that people are not eligible for unless they have complex needs.
As an End Of life Support worker for Histon and Impington, I aim to provide an additional advisory and in person role to signpost to and work alongside existing services to ensure individuals and families are listened to and wishes carried out where possible.
The importance of family and communication is at the forefront of my goal to take good end of life care back to the people who matter. As a society we are not yet able to talk about well being and dying well as a continuum, but this can change with the right information, education and support.
Please do contact me if you or a loved one has been told they are for end of life care, has a palliative or life limiting condition and needs support. If you don’t know where to start, let this be your first step jo@hifriends.org.uk
