HI Friends were grateful to the Histon Beer Festival for a grant of £1,000 in the Autumn to help launch a new project entitled ‘Flourishing Start’
Sophie Howell the HI Friends Mental Wellbeing Worker was keen to increase general mental wellbeing resilience for village primary children in a way that also pro-actively involved their parents.
Preventative work can be so important with mental wellbeing so Sophie devised a six week course called ‘The Flourishing Start’. Parents attend the first session to obtain an overview of what is to be covered, sessions 2-5 are for the children and includes guidance on wellbeing tools and techniques to manage wellbeing and being able to talk about feelings.
In the first year of ‘The Flourishing Start’ over 200 children mostly in years 4 and 5, and their parents have participated and the feedback received has been really positive from both the children and parents alike. The programme will continue in the academic year from September
