An Outing to the Botanics

On the second hottest day of this year, members of our Forget-me-not Journey Memory Support Group, that meets on a Tuesday, took a trip to the Cambridge University Botanic Gardens. With plenty of sunscreen, insect repellent, and sun hats members ventured forth. Under clear blue skies (and no shade) the group enjoyed a rather hot but nonetheless pleasant couple of hours walking round the wonderful gardens and enjoying some much-needed tea, cakes and cold drinks in the Gardens’ café.

Two weeks later, when it was slightly cooler, members of our Friday group (plus one couple from the Tuesday group) enjoyed a similar, if cooler outing. The lower temperatures encouraged a more leisurely stroll round, with time to take in the beautiful plants, cooling water features and, again, appropriate refreshments.

The whole visit was made possible by HI Friends’ membership of the Cambridge University Botanical Gardens Community Membership Scheme, the use of the HI Friends minibus to get us there and back, and Charity Manager, Neil Davies, acting as driver. Despite the very warm temperatures, both outings proved to be a great hit with those who were able to go. We’re now working on our next trip!
