If you come to Kay Hitch Way Community Room on a Tuesday or Friday morning throughout the year, you will find Histon Lunch Club for older people. A place of ‘food, fun and friendship’ is offered for everyone who comes, and transport can be arranged for those living within our villages who would not otherwise be able to get there.

It is a place of laughter and fun, as well as an important time for people to come together and help alleviate the loneliness that can so often be felt by those living alone and unable to leave home easily. Alongside having a hot meal (and pudding), we provide a range of activities for the members to participate in, such as quizzes, singing, bingo and craft activities, as well as guest speakers and other entertainment. And, of course, several cups of tea or coffee are always squeezed in!

Lunch Club is led by Sally Smith (employed by HI Friends), and Chris Swallow, a long-standing volunteer, who kept the activity going prior to HI Friends involvement in 2022 almost on her own. A group of amazing volunteers help cook, wash up, make tea, put tables out and away and chat with those who attend.

HI Friends is keen to ensure that those wanting to attend can do so without waiting, and we have introduced two new fortnightly sessions: 2nd and 4th Thursdays monthly.

If you or a family member are interested in coming to the Lunch Club, please contact Sally: 07772 437789 | sally@hifriends.org.uk

If you may be able to help us run the Lunch Club by cooking lunch, chatting with attendees, or anything else, please let Sally know.
