The tenth anniversary running of the Histon Bonfire Burn 10k took place last Sunday on a glorious Autumnal morning.
There was a real buzz around Histon & Impington Recreation Ground at the start with over 570 runners eagerly wanting to return run the ‘real‘ run rather than last year ‘s virtual event.
For the first time the Bonfire Burn started and finished at the Recreation Ground which was a real positive.
The event organised by HI Friends raised for over £3,000 for the village wellbeing charity and HI Runners provide event support.
Tom Barnes was the first male home and Alexandra Cross led the Ladies home. The first Histon Lady home was Claire McCarthy and Andy Butcher was the first Histon male.
HI Friends were pleased to provide a free place to local village resident Karen Tate who was running her first ever 10k for the Bone Cancer Research Trust . Karen explains her motivation to run
“Sam Wick is an inspirational 21 year old, the son of a close friend Jen. He was diagnosed with bone cancer 10 months ago and since then, Sam and Jen have had to do the equivalent of a marathon every day for Sam to get well after a total knee replacement. He is learning to walk again and continues treatment. He never loses his humour and determination to get better and to help other children and young people diagnosed with this brutal disease through raising funds for BRCT. It is a long road and one with a poor prognosis. BRCT are a small charity helping Sam and others like him to have the best chance of survival.”
