On Sunday the 5th of September, the Strawberry Community Cycle Event took place. Following its sad cancellation in 2020 all were thrilled to see it go ahead, and the event lived up to the anticipation: the sun shone, the atmosphere was jovial and excited, and over 370 cyclists of different ages and abilities arrived throughout the morning to participate in the different rides.
A general buzz underlay the event as people registered, going on to wait for the start, have their bikes seen to at the on-site Rutland Cycling stall or chat with members of the organising groups HIBC and HI Friends, before gathering at the starting line and setting off. Upon their return, all were greeted with enthusiasm, a sense of triumph, the smell of the barbecue manned by Cambridge Scouts and the offer of a free massage from Fit Again Sports Therapy.
Thank you to all those who offered their time and/or services to make the Strawberry Community Cycle Event such a memorable occasion: our marshals, the groups manning the refreshment stops along the routes and all supporting organisations. We hope everyone enjoyed the event as much as we enjoyed running it. We will see you back at the starting line in 2022!
